The Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2021 is underway, and companies took this opportunity to showcase their prototypes and upcoming products. Taking advantage of this opportunity, ZTE unveiled its YouCare device – a smart t-shirt equipped with 5G technology that can monitor vital health signs.
ZTE YouCare 5G Smart T-Shirt Overview:
Wearables, especially those with health monitoring features, have steadily gained popularity in recent years. The market is therefore filled with countless products from numerous companies. ZTE, on the other hand, seems to be taking it a step further by launching a 5G enabled T-shirt.
Getting to know your health is easy with ZTE YouCare, a project that uses textile devices without metal components for health monitoring. Wearables made entirely in Italy can detect a number of bio-vital parameters, which can be transmitted to a smartphone or smartwatch. Garments made with re-usable textile material are fully washable and look no different from regular T-shirts.
5G enabled T-shirts are made with patented and certified textile technology that embeds a series of polymeric sensors into the fabrics themselves. According to ZTE, these sensors are capable of detecting bio-vital parameters such as respiratory activity analysis, electrocardiography, sweat components, muscle effort, and body temperature. Similar to the mini-control unit, a miniature module records and converts the data. Textile sensors have never detected these parameters, claims the company.
Due to the use of 5G, the garment can transmit the analyzed data to an individual’s smartphone or smartwatch. The data can even be transmitted to a remote unit to analyze it and notify you if there’s an emergency.
A T-shirt is more contactable than a traditional wearable since it has a wider area of contact. Therefore, it is possible to collect more health-related information using it.
Due to its remote health monitoring feature, it could radically change the health sector. Also, the Red Cross President for Italy has expressed interest in the initiative, which he believes could “change the quality of life and home health assistance across the country.”
